Brandon Ledwidge, 23, was shot a number of times at his family home in Barry Drive at around 7 p.m. The scene has been preserved and gardaí believe the fatal shooting is drug-related.

The man was shot several times in the head and body in the garden of his home. His mother was in the house at the time.

Gardaí and the emergency services arrived and paramedics worked on the victim. He was taken to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The area has now been sealed off for a forensic examination.

Gardaí at Finglas have commenced a murder investigation and have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

An incident room has been set up at Finglas Garda Station and a family liaison officer has been appointed.

The man was linked to a local family-based drug gang in Finglas, which has been targeted by gardaí.

Significant quantities of drugs and firearms have been seized and a number of gang members have been arrested and are currently before the courts.

There has been a substantial reduction in gangland murders over the past number of years, with many known hitmen convicted and jailed for organized crime offenses.

This is the first gangland murder this year.
