On Friday, January 19, 2024, The WVU Women’s Lacrosse Club announced the passing of beloved teammate and friend, Carly Grozier, via a social media post.
“We are deeply saddened by the news that our teammate and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 17, 2024,” the post said.
“Everyone on our team loved Carly dearly and her light radiated throughout everyone she was around. Our heart goes out to her family and friends during this hard time. Her effect on the team will not be forgotten. She is forever in our hearts.”

On September 6th, 2023, there was an explosion at 727 Wells Street which caused Maddie Granger, Carly Grozier, Emma Dodson, and Meghan Harris, to lose their home and belongings as well as leaving Carly severely injured.
Carly has been in the hospital for months where had to undergo numerous surgeries to repair the burns she suffered.
