According to a statement from his son, retired boxer Dave Hilton Jr., Dave Hilton Sr. died away peacefully on Tuesday, July 28, 2023 at his home in Montreal while surrounded by family. There was no mention of the reason of death.

When he was only 15 years old, he earned his first name by taking home a gold medal in the middleweight division in the 1955 Pan American Games.
Dave Hilton Sr. entered the world of professional wrestling for the first time in 1958. Over the course of his 19-year career, he progressively moved up the rankings, defeating competitors like Joey Giardello, Dick Tiger, and Nino Benvenuti.

Prior to his retirement in 1976, he would go on to hold world championships in the middleweight, light heavyweight, and heavyweight weight classes. His career record was 65-16 with 52 knockouts.
