On Friday, October 13, 2023, David Thom, a resident of Vancouver, British Columbia, and the president of IBI Group Inc., tragically departed suddenly. Through a tweet that read, “So sad to learn Saturday of the sudden passing of my friend David Thom,” Bob Ransford announced his death.
David was a brilliant businessman who oversaw IBI Group’s IPO around 20 years ago and helped it expand into one of North America’s largest architectural firms, which is now a division of Arcadis. David excelled as an architect.
David Thom was in charge of providing executive leadership as the President of IBI Group Inc. and IBI Group, with a focus on managing and leading the organization’s qualified multidisciplinary teams. His areas of competence are complex project planning and design, including planning, architecture, and transportation.

Mr. Thom joined the business in 1975 after earning a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Toronto. He belonged to both the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC).
