Brooke Lerner Obituary-Death News; Professor Brooke Lerner Of The University Of Buffalo And Member Of The NAEMSP Passed Away From Cancer
The family members declared E. Brooke Lerner, PhD, FAEMS dead after her valiant battle with cancer. In the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University at Buffalo’s Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Brooke is now a tenured professor and vice chair for research.
She had previously worked as a paramedic and later held a position on the National Association of Emergency Medical Services Providers (NAEMSP) Board of Directors. Brooke spent her whole professional career conducting research in a branch of medicine where there was little literature available.
After some time, she managed to publish more than 135 pieces in scholarly journals and received major financing from the federal government to study emergency medical services.

She worked hard to develop the current national standard for mass casualty triage in addition to a lot of work on acute injury care and field/disaster triage.
Additionally, Brooke gave a large amount of her time to the field of paediatric emergency care, particularly through the federally funded Paediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN).

It is impossible to fully capture Brooke Lerner’s contributions to emergency medical services, and it is even harder to adequately capture the lasting impression she had on everyone she interacted with.
