Gary Simard Obituary: In loving memory of Methuen dad who died in swimming accident in attempt to rescue 12-year-old son at Seabrook Beach.

Gary Simard, a 44-year-old father of four from Methuen who jumped into the ocean on Wednesday to try to save his son from a harmful rip current, has passed away.

Simard had been enjoying the day with family at Salisbury Beach on Wednesday afternoon, according to Essex District Attorney Paul Tucker, when his kid was dragged away from the coast and unable to swim in.

Simard reportedly jumped into the water to assist as the toddler began begging for aid.

Simard was not found by the two good samaritans who dove into the ocean and pulled four kids back to the shore. When they arrived, the police and firefighters were able to drag Simard in. On the beach, responding EMTs conducted CPR.

Simard was subsequently taken to the hospital and later reportedly passed away, according to the Essex District Attorney. All four kids made it out alive.

Simard was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Grammar School and Central Catholic High School, Class of 1997. He began his career working in the family business right in Haverhill, Simard Gas and Oil Company, he then moved on to car sales at Jaffarian Motor Sales and for the past eight years he had been employed at the Lyon-Waugh Auto Group, Mini of Peabody, where he was recently promoted to Finance Manager.

He was a loving father, son, brother, uncle and friend. He lived for his children and his loving partner of fifteen years, Alexis T. Wronski. His family was the center of his life.
