On November 25, 2023 at approximately 11:30 a.m. police, fire, and emergency medical personnel responded to the area of North Pease Road, between Fairgrounds Road and Amity Road, on a report of a vehicle discovered by a resident, which was off the road, severely damaged, and partially overturned.

The only person inside the car, Jessica Ciola, 46, of Bethany, Connecticut, was confirmed dead at the site upon arrival. Her 2018 Jeep Wrangler swerved off the road, hit a tree, and came to rest on its side in a wooded area earlier that morning while she was driving it north on Amity Road, according to the preliminary inquiry.
